3 – 5 year olds
This introductory class is designed for the nervous swimmer or very beginner. We will work on submersion’s and back floats while assisting the child to feel comfortable and safe in the water. The foundation of streamlining (correct body position and form) will be introduced. The use of positive reinforcement is critical to help the child build trust and confidence. For safety, we work on turn around swims. The instructor practices with every child what to do if they were to fall in the pool. Being safe around a pool is discussed with the class every lesson.

The Goals of a Frogs Class:
- Develop a high comfort level underwater
- Float independently 3 to 5 feet, eyes down
- Develop a relaxed back position
The requirements to graduate into the Gobies class are: Relaxed prone float 3 to 5 feet back floating with minimal assistance; and be able to demonstrate a safety swim.
This level is for the child who has developed comfort in the water and is ready learn the basics of freestyle and backstroke and streamlining. We work on correct technique as we teach them to use their arms. The swimmers will begin to explore their new found skills of swimming underwater. Safety is reinforced in each class and we review what to do if they fell in the pool. Turn around swims are practiced each lesson and safety skills are talked about as a group.

The Goals of a Gobies Class:
- Develop good streamlining skills
- Swim freestyle with straight arm recovery
- Develop an independent backstroke kick with arms at the side and in a streamline to the wall
The requirements to graduate into the Tiger Barbs class are: Relaxed Freestyle swim, straight arm recovery, and be able to float on back with kicks.
The Tiger Barb class is for children who are able to swim free and backstroke over a short distance and are now ready to learn freestyle side breathing (preferred side breathing). This class is where we will begin to see the students putting it all together and really making a big splash of progress in the pool. Side breathing takes practice and is a big component of learning in this level. Safety is also a feature that is developed by practising swimming a further distance in the pool.
